Makeover for the Crossing Church & Centre in Worksop now Complete
The all-embracing religious facility was completed earlier last year - Rolton Group was appointed for the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Services.
Unusually for a church it incorporates a total of 124 square metres of external floor to ceiling structural glass to the ground and first floors. The innovative design follows a serpentine shape in the facade section that faces the main street, which can be seen by passers-by as well as the regular congregation.
The inspirational design features two wings, symbolising two welcoming outstretched arms, to encourage visitors to enter the church.
With the centre being built in an attractive and prominent town centre location it will benefit the community by:
an information foyer available, to help community and voluntary groups, to increase awareness of their activities and encourage volunteering
providing a community cafe and coffee bar featuring fair trade consumables and managed by a community partner to offer training opportunities
offering a short-stay shoppers creche where harassed parents can leave their babies and toddlers in safety
attracting those who want to know more about electronic activities such as emailing and the internet
providing a "quiet room" for those seeking solace or needing to think things through
promoting facilities for those who work for the less affluent members of our society
making well-equipped training, meeting and conference space available at a low cost to community and voluntary groups
