Hatchcroft Passes the Test

A successful Building Pressure test was recently carried out on Middlesex University's new flagship teaching block at Hendon Campus. The test was carried-out to Rolton Group specification on 5th July 2008 by specialist contractor BAT.

Hatchcroft is the Second Phase of a 4 Phase development programme to extend and enhance Middlesex University's teaching and research facilities at their Hendon Campus. The Building is around 4,500 sq.m, is due for Completion in August 2008 for Client/User occupation in September 2008 and the anticipated final account cost is around £13.5m

During the design development of the building, a stringent target of 7.0 cu.m/hour/sq.m of building envelope was set by Rolton Group to contribute towards estimated CO2 savings in excess of 20% when compared to a Part L2A (2006) compliant building. Part L2A requires a maximum of 10.0 cu.m/hour/sq.m of building envelope.

The test results achieved showed a pressure lost equivalent to 6.14 7.0 cu.m/hour/sq.m of building envelope, around 10% better than the target figure & nearly 40% better that Part L2 requirements.

The measurements were carried-out to QA procedures recognised by Building Control Officers for Parts L1 compliance. The tests were performed by BAT to ATTMA technical standard 1 - which complies with the
current building regulations Part L1. The air pressure test is a mandatory requirement of the Building Regulations for all new build and is required prior to the Building Control body issuing their completion/final certificate.
