Appointment to Sheffield Forgemasters
Rolton Group has been appointed by Sheffield Forgemasters Steel to complete the phase 2 Feasibility Study for the proposed redevelopment of their Melt Shop.
The project is driven by Forgemasters Engineering’s strategic decision to move into the Nuclear Energy market. To cater for the demands of this market, the company is investing in a 15,000 tonne press. Forgemasters’ Steel Division will need to increase their molten steel throughput by 1000 tonne per week and increase the size of the steel ingots that they can produce, to 500 tonnes.
To achieve this, the project will include the construction of a new Melt Shop, housing a 500 tonne overhead crane, deep ingot casting pits and a new bridge over the River Don. The project has an estimated construction cost of around £25M.
Rolton Group are providing C&S, M&E, Geo/Enviro and Health & Safety services for the study.
