Geotechnical and Environmental Engineering
Rolton Group provides a comprehensive service for the investigation, assessment and remediation of contaminated land and understands the obligations
imposed on Clients as a consequence of environmental legislation and the commercial issues associated with acquiring and redeveloping 'brownfield' sites.
A truly multi-disciplinary and integrated team comprising of geologists and engineering geologists, geotechnical engineers, environmental chemists and
specialist risk assessors offers Clients a unique combination of knowledge and practical experience to 'unlock' the value inherent in derelict
and contaminated sites in a timely and cost-effective manner.
From initial pre-acquisition screening and due diligence studies, through to remediation, validation and regulatory 'sign-off', Rolton Group has
the expertise and experience to guide you through the redevelopment process.
Of particular importance is the fact that key members of the team have forged and maintain close working relationships with the Environment Agency's
regional staff and local authority contaminated land officers. This ensures that time spent seeking feedback on site investigation reports and
negotiating 'clean-up' levels is kept to a minimum, thereby reducing the potential impact on the overall development programme.
The geo-environmental team is able to offer the following services:
- Desk Study and Site reconnaissance (visual inspection of site and surroundings, discussions with site owners, tenants and other involved parties,
desk-based researches, regulatory and non-regulatory body consultation, contamination assessment, including preparation of Conceptual Site Model)
- Intrusive Ground Investigation (design, planning and procurement, chemical and geotechnical testing, in situ monitoring and sampling, CCTV and
digital topographical surveys)
- Soil, Water and Human Health Risk Assessment (use of regulator-recognised mathematical models to derive defensible and pragmatic target values
for any remediation that may be required)
- Soil and Groundwater Remediation (regulatory negotiation, development of remediation strategies, cost benefit analysis, preparation of
specifications and contract documents, site supervision, validation and regulatory 'sign-off')
- Post-Remediation Monitoring (in situ monitoring and discussion of results with regulatory bodies)

Geotechnical-related matters usually have to be considered as part of the site investigation process, especially where there is a requirement to
design a suitable foundation strategy, or where constraints such as poor ground, shallow groundwater or unstable slopes have to be addressed
as part of the proposed development.
Rolton Group's engineering geologists and geotechnical engineers have considerable experience in providing
realistic and cost-effective solutions to these and other geotechnical issues and can offer the following specialist services:
- Risk and Hazard Assessment
- Foundation Engineering and Design
- Ground Improvement Design
- Slope Stability Analysis
- Groundwater Studies and Hydrogeological Modelling
- In situ and Laboratory Geotechnical Testing
- Geotechnical Monitoring
- Earthworks Design and Supervision
