Powering the Future
The energy landscape of the plant i changing. Fossil fuels are now on a defined time line as consumption outstrips new reserves being found.
Coupled with climate change caused by the release of Millions of years worth of accumulated CO2 in by geological standards an instant and we as a species find ourselves with one of the defining challenges of our society, even our existence. In the UK the energy time bomb clock is ticking.
Historically we have been blessed with large coal reserves which powered the industrial revolution and in modern times North Sea gas and Oil.
However both these sources have now less than ten years.
Security of supply, Affordability, energy independence, and climate change are now very real concerns for UK plc.
The last few years have seen the EU and UK governments take action to change the ways in which we generate power and use energy whilst making us all aware of the Carbon emitted.
If the UK as a country is to thrive and prosper we need to switch to a Low Carbon Economy in the next ten years. That means making changes right across the board in how we live, work and play.
The UK is starting a long way back from other countries in the EU in 2005 when the benchmarking was done only Malta and Luxembourg did less then use when it came to clean renewable energy. The north Sea had made us lazy and complacent.
All that has changed now an the UK has a forward looking Renewable Energy Strategy and Low Carbon Transition Plan, backed by powerful financial incentives that create exiting commercial opportunities for organisations that are early adopters.
