It's a long way from Polkowice in Poland, where 31-year-old engineer Jaroslaw was previously employed, to his new role at Rolton Group in Higham Ferrers. The opening up of the European Union has made it possible for ambitious engineers like him to broaden their experience.

His previous role as a designer with an international manufacturer of building materials involved working, in English, with clients from Russia to Spain. Apart from his native Polish he speaks English fluently and can also get by in German and Russian. More importantly, the language of engineering is more or less universal.

Jaroslaw is a graduate of the Technical University in Wroclaw. His arrival at Rolton was delayed while his wife Anna gave birth to their first child, a boy, Kacper. Now he has a new job and a new family in a new country.

So what's it like, starting work at Rolton Group? We followed Jaroslaw as he settled in at the Group's offices in Higham Ferrers, Northamptonshire.
