There's always a lot to take in, so spending time early on finding out how the business operates is time well spent. Penny sits with Jaroslaw and together they work their way through the Group's detailed induction procedure.

It takes about two hours as she explains about issues such as payroll procedures, and HR matters such as holidays and sickness. The induction process also takes in an explanation of the Group's information and management systems, and health and safety legislation. There's plenty of opportunity for Jaroslaw to ask questions - either now or later.

The final part of the induction is completing the skills matrix. The matrix records the skills, experience and competence of each member of the team. It's a great way of keeping individuals up-to-date and of identifying any gaps in the firm's armoury of skills, so that they can be quickly identified and filled.
