Queensgate Shopping Centre, Extension and Reconfiguration

Having built a strong and trusted working relationship spanning well over a decade, Rolton Group has been appointed by Queensgate Shopping Centre to provide multi-disciplinary engineering services in a £35 million extension spanning 77,000ft², which will include a variety of new facilities for the centre’s patrons. The reconfiguration of existing floors within the centre and the creation of extra space in the roof will accommodate new amenities including a large cinema, several restaurants, and additional retail stores.

The team at Rolton Group have carried out civil and structural and mechanical and electrical feasibility reports regarding aspects such as a review on the load bearing capacity of the structure to support the new floors and reconfigurations, a review of foul and rainwater runs and connection points as well as above ground drainage, and incoming electrical, gas, water supplies and sprinkler system alterations.

In regards to the planning stage, our engineers liaised with the client and were responsible for coming up with the brief for the project, through survey work and providing preliminary information in relation to the works in the form of advice, sketches, reports and outline specifications, to form the basis of the input to the Architect’s planning pack.

Rolton Group has been appointed to provide performance design services for a two-stage design and build project procurement, which involved our engineers working through the RIBA Stage 2 concept design and RIBA Stage 3 developed design of the site.

To enable the downsize of John Lewis Partnership’s Peterborough store, Rolton Group are also on board to prepare a RIBA Stage 3 enabling works package to assist with this separate work stream which forms part of the overall contract work.

Once on site, our engineers will monitor the works carried out by the contractor, review and comment on contractors proposals and oversee the quality and workmanship of the installation to ensure that is it completed to a high standard.

Throughout the project the team at Rolton Group will provide specialist technical advice on a number of aspects including control and exclusion of environmental hazards, building leakage and pressure testing. They will also work to assist the architect in obtaining Building Regulation compliance.
