CEEQUAL 'Excellent' Rating - Biogen, Baldock

We are delighted to announce that the £12 million Biogen anaerobic digestion (AD) plant near Baldock in Hertfordshire has been awarded a CEEQUAL ‘Excellent’ rating, and is the very first food waste to energy plant in the UK to achieve the accolade!

CEEQUAL provides a rigorous and comprehensive sustainability rating system that celebrates the commitment and demonstration of the civil engineering industry to achieving high environmental, economic and social performance. Biogen, Rolton Group and Toureen Group were given a ‘Whole Team’ award for our work together on the project, and we are delighted to have our collaboration recognised in such a way.

The site is due to become operational this November and will produce 2.2MW of renewable electricity, along with bio-fertiliser that will be used on nearby farmland. Rolton Group provided multi-disciplinary engineering design services for this landmark project, which provides a sustainable food waste solution for homes and businesses across Hertfordshire and the surrounding areas.

Sympathetic construction and respect for the environment was a priority throughout the project, and the above photo shows just some of the 14,000 trees that have been planted on-site not only to mask the plant but also to provide a habitat for many species of wildlife and thereby enhancing the future ecology of the area.

We are proud to have been part of such a successful team and look forward to seeing the plant in action later this year.
