Northamptonshire Ltd Event

On Wednesday 13th May, Peter Rolton - Chairman of Rolton Group was honoured to attend the Northamptonshire Ltd event at Northampton Saints Rugby Club along with other business leaders.

Also in attendance was David Rolton, former Chairman of Rolton Group, who is now the director of Northampton Enterprise Partnership. The event is now in its third year and had been hosted by Grant Thornton who is one of the largest financial and business advisors in the world. Grant Thornton have also been our accountants for 35 years. Over breakfast they reviewed the performance of the Top 100 privately owned businesses in Northamptonshire, highlighting their key findings.

Northamptonshire has recently seen double digit growth for the last two years, in response to see if this level of turnover and profit growth is sustainable; Grant Thornton have put together a report. Northamptonshire Ltd was first launched in 2013 which gives unique insight into the performance of the Northamptonshire business community. The data for the report is compiled using the county's 100 largest privately owned companies based on turnover which also have their principal trading address in Northamptonshire. The report also breaks down the performance of the county’s top 100 businesses by nine key sectors.

Speaking about the survey, Mike Hughes of Grant Thornton said:

“The real focus this year has been on profitability and businesses now have a robust platform to use the cash generated to expand and develop over the next few years. This could be achieved either through acquisition, which we have seen strong evidence of this year propelling some new businesses into the top 100, or organic growth delivered through investment which has also been apparent.”

The event was a great opportunity for Rolton Group to assess the county’s economic performance which we can use to benchmark against other peers. Guest speaker Giles Turrell, CEO of The Weetabix Food Company spoke about The Weetabix journey, his business insights and experience. It was inspiring to hear how a well branded company has evolved and developed overtime within our county.
