Rolton Group and Rolton Kilbride Receive Ministerial Visit

Andrea Leadsom, Minister of State for the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and Conservative MP for Northamptonshire South, was today greeted at Rolton Group and Rolton Kilbride’s Higham Ferrers offices.

After an introduction to Rolton Group and Rolton Kilbride, Ms Leadsom was briefed by Peter Rolton, director of Rolton Kilbride and Brian Binley, chair of the Caring Community Energy Company, on the proposed Community Energy Scheme for Northampton. The scheme would make use of a similar energy from waste plant as the planned energy centre at Castle Bromwich, the plans of which were released on Wednesday. Non-recyclable waste – refuse derived fuel - would be converted into power and heat using gasification technology.

The Northampton scheme is unique, however, as it would see the involvement of a community interest company - the Caring Community Energy Company. Whilst the Northampton plant would provide heat and power to local businesses, it would also supply heat to homes in the local area. Furthermore, profits made through the sale of the energy would be reinvested by the Caring Community Energy Company into local energy projects.

We are delighted to have been given the opportunity to brief the minister on current Rolton Kilbride projects, and to hear her praise for the way that they accord with current government thinking.
