Chris Bowmer Achieves Professional Status with the ICE

Supporting all of our team is something that we are passionate about at Rolton Group. The professional qualification: EngTech MICE recognises the expertise of engineering technicians and the high standard they perform to and we are delighted to announce that Senior Technician, Chris Bowmer has achieved this professional status with the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE).

Rolton Group’s senior team and mentors encourage all members of the various teams to continually progress their careers, and when the opportunity for Chris arose to be EngTech MICE qualified, Associate Director Shaun Pentlow and Senior Project Engineers Peter Atkinson and Alec Bell were more than willing to help.

During his application process Chris was required to answer three assignment questions, attend an interview and provide evidence of his Continuing Professional Development (CPD). Some of the CPD sessions Chris has completed include Basement Waterproofing, Ground Heave Solutions, VOC and Ground Gas Protection, which has raised his knowledge in these specific areas.

The three assignments Chris covered in his application were designed to demonstrate his knowledge and how he has put this into practise. Chris explained how he solved a technical problem in one of our residential projects during a S38 agreement (the creation of new public highways). Within this project, Chris was required to prove the new roads were going to be suitable for large refuse vehicles, however during his swept path analysis, it was found that one of the turning heads was not sufficient. As a result, Chris came up with several solutions to change its position in order for the vehicles to be able to navigate the roads successfully.

Delighted with his success Chris said:

“I am so proud to have achieved this qualification; throughout my career I have worked on a variety of projects and this has recognised the engineering knowledge and experience I have gained. The process has also helped me to focus on my career development and the direction I want to take. I am grateful for all of the support from my colleagues not only in achieving this qualification, but also on a day to day basis.”

Associate Director, Shaun Pentlow who has worked closely with Chris on some of Rolton Group’s major projects said:

“I am very pleased with Chris’ achievement, particularly as it was his first attempt and this highlights his attention to detail and his dedication to achieving his goals. I know he put a great deal of effort into this and it has spurred him on with the new challenges he faces.”
