Undergraduate Engineer Wins an Excellence Award

We are delighted to announce that Undergraduate Engineer, Laura Barker, has been awarded an Excellence in Skills Award as the Engineering Technology Champion from Peterborough Regional College, for her hard work and excellent academic achievements.

Laura joined Rolton Group in December 2013 as a Technical Administrator for the Peterborough office. Having taken care of the daily office needs and supporting the engineering design teams for three years, she decided it was time for a career change and with the support of Rolton Group, she enrolled on Peterborough Regional College’s Extended Diploma in Electronic/Electrical Engineering in September 2016.

Since then, Laura has continued to work full time on some of our most exciting projects whilst completing her course. She has just received her final results, achieving the highest possible grade of D*D*. This academic achievement, along with her attitude and determination, resulted in all of the tutors and lecturers who have taught her over the last two years unanimously agreeing that she should be nominated for an Excellence in Skills Award for Engineering Technology Champion.

Laura’s tutors have spoken highly of her, saying she has been one of the stand out students in the class and always completes her work to the highest of standards. They also commended her for putting the time aside to help her peers when they struggled to grasp difficult concepts.

Craig Smith, the Director responsible for Training and Development at Rolton Group, said:

“I am really proud of Laura – she’s put a lot of time and effort into her studies and it’s great to see the hard work pay off and receive recognition from others. Her achievements demonstrate a real commitment to further learning and helps cement her transition from Technical Administrator to Undergraduate Engineer. We’re pleased to be supporting Laura through her academic studies and continuing professional development.”

Laura was presented with her award at a ceremony on Thursday 5th July at Peterborough Cathedral. Now looking to continue her education, Laura will be starting a two year HNC programme in September in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and from there, plans to go on to complete a top-up course to achieve her degree.

Congratulations Laura!
