Graduate Structural Engineer Promoted

Congratulations to Gurpal Sagoo, who has recently been promoted to the position of Project Engineer at Rolton Group in recognition of his professional capabilities and the consistent high quality of his work.

Gurpal joined Rolton Group in January 2018 as a Graduate Engineer and his ability and desire to take more responsibility for projects has been formally acknowledged by the board, resulting in his recent promotion.

Having graduated from the University of Warwick with MEng (Hons) in Structural Engineering, Gurpal fully intended on entering the engineering industry. However, as the market was slow at the time, he instead worked for the NHS for almost three years in a chemotherapy unit. Although this was not the original plan, Gurpal found he gained some vital transferable skills, such as how to approach every situation logically, dealing with protocol and how to address sensitive subjects, which have all helped him to become the considerate engineer he is today.

After leaving the NHS, Gurpal joined a local engineering firm in Peterborough, where he was able to hone his engineering skills as he focused on a range of residential and small domestic extensions. However, after three years in that role, he found himself wanting to work on a larger range of projects both in terms of size and scope.

It was at this point, that Gurpal joined Rolton Group and quickly cemented himself as a reliable, go-to member of the structural team.

Delighted with his promotion, Gurpal said:

“I am very excited to take on more responsibility and the challenges that come along with leading my own projects. One of the projects I have started to lead is for a local primary school, and it is great to be working on a much larger scheme which has challenged and expanded my knowledge of working with steel frame structures.”

In addition, Gurpal has taken on significant responsibility for one of our latest care home projects. He has had continuous involvement from the start of the project and is the main point of contact representing Rolton Group amongst the wider project team, managing the day-to-day engineering inputs for the scheme to allow smooth project progression.

Senior Engineer, Gavin Baxter said of the occasion:

“Gurpal is a valued member of the structural team in Peterborough who instantly settled into his role. From the offset, his due diligence and attention to detail have shone in multiple projects. He continues to expand on his knowledge and experiences across multiple sectors and this role now reflects his abilities and new responsibilities. Congratulations on the promotion Gurpal - we look forward to seeing you continuing to progress in the future!”
