New Primary School Opens in Peterborough

We are proud to have provided Civil and Structural design from concept through to completion for the newly opened Hampton Lakes Primary School in Peterborough.

Rolton Group began providing conceptual advice and design for the scheme to Carillion prior to their liquidation. After which, the scheme was ably adopted by Interserve Construction who delivered the school to a “delighted” Peterborough City Council and Hampton Academies Trust in early October 2020, despite the complications of the national lock-down earlier in the year.

The £6.4m project generally consisted of a two-storey steel frame with suspended ground floor over piled foundations; design challenges along the way included unique ground conditions that required careful forward planning of construction activities and limiting excavation depth to allow the foundation installation to happen on schedule.

The Department for Education funded project was prioritised and highly valued by Peterborough City Council as it aids them in dealing with a rising population. As a result, the school provides spaces for 420 children in the local area along with 26 nursery places, making it a true asset to the Hampton area.

Sean Purtill, Contracts Manager at Interserve Construction Limited commented:

"Everybody was delighted and full of praise for the new facility but also full of praise for the well organised, controlled journey that we have all taken so well together, particularly given some of the extreme challenges we have faced along the way due to COVID”.

Our thanks go out to Interserve and the rest of the design team for the collaborative design process that allowed us all to successfully deliver the project to the client who was also extremely pleased.
