Part of the Rolton team were delighted to enjoy a fantastic day at Britishvolt’s ceremonial ground-breaking event on Tuesday 27th July, to celebrate the impressive progress made to date for the delivery of the UK’s first ever full-scale Gigaplant in Cambois, Northumberland. Proposals for the facility were unanimously approved by Northumberland County Council’s planning committee on 6th July 2021.

In celebration of this milestone and all that has been achieved so far, Britishvolt invited local dignitaries to join members of its project team and colleagues to listen to words of thanks for the efforts that have brought the project to this point. Inspiring speeches by Global CEO, Orral Nadjari, Leader of Northumberland County Council, Councillor Glen Sanderson and Labour MP, Ian Lavery outlined ambitions for the future facility, including its positive impact on the local community and the wider region. Of course, being by the sea, fish and chips were the order of the day for lunch, enjoyed in the warm sea air on the North-East coast.

Once operational, the Gigaplant will produce world-leading lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicle (EV) manufacture; a pivotal piece of the UK automotive industry’s planned evolution and fundamental to the UK’s drive to achieving a Net Zero Carbon (NZC) economy by 2050.

Rolton Group are proud to be part of this extraordinary project.
