As part of our geotechnical and geo-environmental service provision, Rolton Group is regularly required to send soil and water samples for laboratory testing to determine the extent of any contamination present and enable appropriate risk assessments and remediation strategies to be implemented.

One such laboratory is Chemtest, a UKAS accredited testing laboratory, who kindly opened their doors to us on 13th October for a tour of their facilities and explained the various processes that our soil and water samples undergo as determined by the specific testing requirements of any given site.

The company takes in between 450 and 600 samples every day that range from the most benign to the extremely hazardous, working with ever-evolving equipment to provide accurate results within demanding timescales. Their quality assurance process is rigorous, with 5% of all samples undergoing quality control tests; it is only through precision at this level that we can be sure we are passing on the most accurate data to our clients.

We would like to thank Chemtest for an insightful visit, which provided a lot of food for thought and will certainly inform our future practice when collecting samples.
