On Tuesday evening (19th January) was the official opening of the new City Sight Clinic at City University, London, for which Rolton Group provided extensive mechanical and electrical engineering design expertise.

Rolton Group’s work on the City Sight Clinic is yet another successful project completed for City University – the 29th project in 5 years. Craig Smith, Associate Director of Rolton Group and project leader, said:

“It was a proud moment to be invited along to the formal opening of such a key project. Bringing the Optometry department back home to the main Northampton Square campus will re-integrate the academics and, I have no doubt, contribute even further to the excellent research and public-facing services which City Sight will provide over the coming years.”

The event was attended by professionals, students and academics from a range of institutions. It began with a short presentation, hosted by Professor Stanton Newman, Dean of the School of Health Sciences. The Sight Clinic was then formally opened by the Rt. Hon John Bercow MP, Speaker of the House of Commons and recipient of an honorary degree from City University.

Following the presentation and opening ceremony, guests were given tours of the new facilities by students of the University. It was fantastic to see the clinic up and running, with all of the technology in place to treat patients, assist the students’ training and further the department staff’s research. Students of the Optometry Department who were in attendance commented that they were extremely grateful for the new facilities and looked forward to using them on a regular basis.

The City Sight Clinic is part of the Tait Building, where Rolton Group has previously provided multidisciplinary engineering solutions for a number of projects as part of its long-standing relationship with City University. Details of our involvement on the Tait Level 2 project can be found here.
