We are delighted to be working with our well-established client City University (City) in London on their latest project, which concerns the partial conversion of Level 1 of the Tait Building and its external courtyard to provide a communal destination for students and staff, renovating the area to create a positive and useful space.
Connecting the Tait ground floor Student Union and the lower ground floor, it is expected that this transformation will also help the circulation through the building, making areas more accessible. The University is planning a range of potential communal areas within this modification, including a multi-faith facility, café / function space and dining area.
Rolton Group is providing mechanical and electrical building services within this £4.5 million construction scheme, with mechanical services including above ground drainage, domestic hot and cold water services, heating, comfort cooling and general ventilation. The electrical works comprise of aspects such as LV distribution, small power, lighting, emergency lighting and security systems and fire detection and alarm.
We have successfully delivered our Stage D design package to City and this will be presented along with the remainder of the project consultants design to the Property & Facilities, Estates, Operations and Key Stakeholders in mid-August 2015. Following sign-off of Stage D, we will progress with Stage E design with a view to procurement and start on site April 2016 with a forecast completion for summer 2017.
Our partnership with City University spans six years, and through our framework we have delivered dozens of successful projects for the establishment. As a result our engineers have a great understanding of the site and in particular Tait Building, where this project is located, as well as the knowledge of what is valuable to the University’s key stakeholders and end users. The project hopes to provide enhanced facilities for the use of both students and staff with an open environment to encourage user interaction and we are sure that on completion, this project will be a great addition to the University’s current campus.
