New Mercedes-Benz Centre of Excellence for Used Cars officially open
9 May 2019
Another stunning automotive retail project completed – the new Mercedes-Benz Centre of Excellence for Used Cars, able to display 200 vehicles, is now open in Erdington, Birmingham.
Rolton Group provided multi-disciplinary engineering services to help deliver the impressive new Mercedes-Benz of Erdington facility, in a project led by LSH Auto Properties (UK) Ltd.
The new Centre of Excellence for Used Cars features a 50 car showroom with space to display a further 150 cars outside, large workshop area and used car preparation facilities including 12 workshop bays, ‘valet building’ for washing and detailing vehicles and further parts and storage areas. The bespoke after-sales facility on-site will also ensure that customers always have access to industry-leading services and support.
The centre’s c. 5,000m2 building occupies a six acre site. The project required the demolition of existing buildings prior to the construction of the new dealership, regenerating the challenging derelict site on Bromford Lane with sustainability considerations as a key element of the BREEAM compliant designs. Rolton Group’s structural engineers produced a full 3D model of the steel frame, floors and foundations of the new dealership, enabling close co-ordination with the wider design team during design stages.
Associate Director, Clayton Knevitt shared his thoughts on the project: “We’ve all been looking forward to seeing the new Centre of Excellence for Used Cars in Erdington for Mercedes-Benz up and running. The final result after months of planning, design and construction looks great! Top effort from all involved and a special thank you to everyone who helped deliver this project from Rolton Group’s civil, structural and geotechnical teams.”
Rolton Group have also provided engineering support to LSH Auto Properties (UK) Ltd in the development of new dealerships for Mercedes-Benz in Stockport and Solihull (up to RIBA Stage 3), as well as undertaking electric vehicle (EV) impact assessments and considering the power demands for the new facilities in Solihull, Stockport and Erdington.
