📌 Wednesday 21 May 2025 14:00 – 14:45.

🕑 North East England Pavilion 12: Located in the Pink Zone on the Dockside and Dock Water, UKREiiF

In an era of rapid technological advancement and global competition for talent, investment, and innovation, cities and regions must increasingly define what makes them distinctive.

The future of economic resilience lies not just in traditional strengths, but in cultivating new sector specialisms that align with global trends and local assets. These high-growth, innovation-led industries have the potential to generate skilled jobs, attract inward investment, and position regions as leaders on the national and international stage.

This session will explore how the North East is identifying and building on its emerging strengths—particularly in areas such as artificial intelligence, space and defence technology, electrification, and advanced manufacturing. Drawing on the ambitions set out in the Local Growth Plan, it will bring together key figures at the forefront of research, development, and industrial strategy to examine how these sectors can anchor the next phase of the region’s economic transformation.

Peter’s focus will be on strategic energy and infrastructure, how do we power the data-driven industries of the future and what does government and other key stakeholders need to do to address the energy challenges.

Peter will draw on the Rolton Roundtable series and Rolton White Paper: Powering the 2035 industries and data-driven revolution.
