On Tuesday 18th September 2018, Senior Renewables Engineer, Ewan Cross completed the UK Green Building Council’s (UK-GBC) 2018 Future Leaders Programme.
In January, Ewan began the nine-month Programme of innovation and leadership which brings together professionals from across the built environment sector. This commenced with a two day residential in Manchester, followed by a series of workshops where they learnt, amongst other things, the different issues relating to business and people leadership.
The final part of the Programme, required the 27 Future Leaders (in groups of four/five) to create a business plan to overcome a particular issue facing the built environment and present their ideas to an audience made up of industry leaders and innovators and the line managers of the current Future Leaders cohort.
Rolton Group Director, Graham Waring was delighted to attend the presentations and commented:
“The programme has provided Ewan with an opportunity to develop his leadership style with a cross section of other future leaders, building long lasting relationships enhancing his entrepreneurial outlook as part of a close-knit innovation team. Ewan has embraced the programme and benefitted from the experience.”
Encouraged by our Chairman, Peter Rolton, Ewan applied for the Programme as it came at the perfect time for him to take the next step in his career. Having achieved Chartership with the Energy Institute six months prior, Ewan wanted to focus on improving his leadership and management skills, and this scheme provided a great opportunity run by a highly regarded industry body.
Upon completing the Programme, Ewan said:
“I am proud to have taken part in this year’s Future Leaders Programme, it has completely exceeded my expectations in terms of leadership learning. It came at the perfect time and has enabled me to really think about the kind of leader I am, the kind of leader I want to be, and what I need to change to get there. It has been a fantastic opportunity to widen my network with like-minded people in the built environment and I look forward to joining the alumni and meeting up over the coming years with these Future Leaders!”
