As many university students across the country come to the end of the academic year and are now enjoying their summer break, we’re taking a moment to reflect on the success of the first Rolton Group Engineering Scholarship with Northumbria University.
Awarded in September 2022 and paying £2,000 to the selected undergraduate student each year during their three-year degree, the scholarship helps pay for living costs associated with study and to enhance the overall learning experience.
Lena, the recipient of our 2022 scholarship, shared a few thoughts: “Thank you so much for this opportunity and support, it has helped me immensely. Since receiving this scholarship, it has helped me purchase an iPad Air and Apple Pencil which I have been using for all my university lectures and for personal pleasure such as drawing. This has greatly improved my learning experience as I have recently been assessed for dyslexia and ADHD and being able to work on the iPad has helped me focus more easily on my work. Using the iPad for projects has helped a lot since I have been able to accurately draw models of the project before we decide on the final product of our group work.
“I think scholarships like this are very important to students, it helps bring a sense of hope and pride. It helps the university living and expenses feel easier to handle and decreases amount of stress which can come from this. It also teaches students to take pride in their work and helps keep them on the right track for their degree. Scholarships like this encourage students to be their best self and help them to attend university and excel within their work as it has done for me and many more students.
“I am very thankful for your generosity. I hope to achieve the best I can with your help. I sincerely appreciate you for your continued support.”
Craig Smith, Managing Director at Rolton Group, said: “We’re so proud of Lena’s achievements and all the hard work she’s put into her studies this year. The opportunity to support students through our scholarship is a pleasure and an honour. We recognise the power and importance of diversity in the workplace and we’re proud to provide the Rolton Group Engineering Scholarships in partnership with the forward-thinking team at Northumbria University.”
The next Rolton Group Engineering Scholarship for BAME women with Northumbria University will be awarded in September 2023.
Congratulations to Lena and all the other students who have made it through their first year of study!
