Group Design & Engineering Centre, Gaydon
This state-of-the-art facility was designed to house the Rover Group's car designers and Rolton Group were selected by Rover Group as project partner and provided civil and structural, mechanical and electrical professional engineering services.
The construction of GDEC was founded upon partnership methods of design and procurement the success of this approach achieved a 40 per cent reduction in cost and time over traditional procurement methods.
The project design featured many unique engineering solutions, for passive fire engineering, architecturally exposed structure, passive and active acoustic control, internal and external lighting, solar gain control and centralised energy centres and plant. The building also featured under floor void located air conditioning and supply/extract ventilation systems.
The project featured as an exemplar in The University of Reading's publication Seven Pillars of Partnership, and won six national awards including Office of the Year. Rolton Group received the Lighting Designer of the Year award for this project.
