Queensgate Shopping Centre, Peterborough - North & Central Square Escalator Replacement
As part of our long-term relationship with Queensgate Shopping Centre, Peterborough, Rolton Group was appointed directly by the client for the replacement of the two pairs of escalators (up/down) located within the existing North and Central Squares.
The key driver for this project was the replacement of the existing escalators due to life expired transportation systems, which were in excess of thirty years old.
Our engineering team was involved from feasibility stage and was able to undertake detailed survey work of the escalators, including the top and base service pits, in conjunction with the incumbent specialist maintenance company Kone Plc.
We were tasked to prepare a performance design brief and drawing package up to and commensurate with RIBA Stage D for tender to a number of main contractors on the basis of a design and build procurement method.
Rolton Group was retained to review and comment on the tenders, tender analysis, interviews and was integral to the contractor selection process. Post-tender our engineers reviewed and commented on the contractors’ proposals, undertook regular site visits to monitor the works in progress, and conducted snagging / final inspections prior to project handover.
Our extensive knowledge of the centre, built up over two decades working with this client, ensured that accurate tender information and concept design strategy could be implemented smoothly by the appointed contractor, leading to a project that was completed on time and within budget.
