Rolton Group was appointed by City University to provide mechanical and electrical building services design services on the basis of a performance design scope to enable the project to be competitively tendered.

The project comprised refurbishment, alteration and adaption of the Southern and Western wings of the Tait Building, from general teaching and research labs to provide additional accommodation for the School of Health Sciences.

Specialist equipment was relocated from a variety of locations both on and off campus, including Tait, Drysdale, Bath Street and West Smithfield. X-ray machinery was relocated from the basement the adjacent Drysdale Building.

A comprehensive survey of the existing installed mechanical and electrical services for the specialist equipment across all the existing areas was carried out pre-design to enable successful relocation.

As part of the relocation of equipment, coordination was carried out with the specialist installers and other external consultants to replicate the equipment in the most efficient manner and in compliance with all regulations, such as the X-ray equipment specialist Radiation Protection Advisor (RPA).

A noise rating of NR25 was achieved to all speech, gesture and listening rooms.
