Nottingham Trent University - Surveying

For four years, Rolton Group assisted the estates maintenance team at Nottingham Trent University. Rolton conducted surveys and advised on the need for remedial work.

This related to dilapidation and structural condition surveys prior to alteration and refurbishment and specific defect surveys of roof leaks, damp, timber condition, floor and stair deflection and the cause and consequence of cracking.

On a Grade 2 listed building, a laser scan of a chimneystack revealed that the chimney’s lean was a symptom of a more serious and widespread defect within the building, and required immediate action.

RGL designed a suitable remedial works scheme and, in conjunction with the client’s Quantity Surveyor, the package was submitted to competitive tender. The remedial scheme included part demolition and rebuilding using Helifix and equivalent masonry reinforcement. Rolton Group assisted the university in selecting a contractor.

Rolton Group’s surveyor liaised directly with the local authority conservation officer, on site, to facilitate planning permission and an early start to remedial works
