Signature Developments, PPS7 House

The revolutionary design of this innovative 800m² house built in Bolton for former England and Manchester United footballer, Gary Neville was unlike any other before it and Rolton Group was invited to work with the client and design team on this prestigious truly zero-carbon home.

A ‘be lean, be clean, be green’ strategy was key to the design, ensuring that passive solutions such as natural ventilation and insulation were employed before any other, more invasive technologies. Overheating was addressed by minor modifications to the building’s orientation and to the size and positioning of glazing.

The building was designed to have high thermal inertia and insulation levels to minimise energy use, and green roofs have also been integrated into the design to aid in this process together with the use of local stone to maximise thermal mass.

The house includes many energy saving features as well as a number of renewable energy technologies. These include a wind turbine, solar photovoltaic panels and a ground source heat pump, designed to use an open loop water supply from a borehole for the provision of the heat exchange medium for the heating of the house. This borehole is also capable of providing the water supply for the house, and discharging excess water to a local water source when required.

Former Footballer, Gary Neville said:

"I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Rolton Group to anyone who is thinking of undertaking a similarly challenging project"
