St John Fisher Catholic High School, Peterborough

This was a new build, extension and refurbishment project to modernise this Peterborough Secondary School and offer first-class educational facilities to its 750 pupils and the wider community.

To help reduce energy consumption, Rolton Group incorporated a number of environmentally sustainable features into the design, including a ground source heat pump, solar hot water collectors mounted on the south-facing roofs and a wind turbine located within the entrance to the school.

To further enhance its green credentials, the new-build classroom block and sports hall were constructed using laminated timber, sourced from sustainable forests. This provides an energy-efficient building envelope and was very quick to erect on the site. The buildings act as an educational resource with students able to monitor the amount of energy being produced using meters located throughout the site.
