Who we are
Middlesex University, The Grove Building
Rolton Group was appointed in March 2008 by Middlesex University to act as civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical consultants on this project to take the design scheme up to a RIBA Stage D. Beyond this stage, our multi-disciplinary team was retained as the employer’s technical advisors for the project through to practical completion.
The building incorporates a number of low / zero carbon and renewable energy technologies including air-to-water heat pumps for heating/ cooling services, solar hot water panels, gas-fired CHP and Absorption chillers.
Rolton Group added value in a number of ways throughout the project, as highlighted in the project key facts:
- BREEAM Bespoke rating of ‘Excellent’ achieved.
- Incorporation of low/zero carbon and renewable energy technologies.
- New incoming high voltage (HV) electrical supply
- 25% reduction in CO2 compared to Part L2A 2006.
The building is used by the University’s Arts & Design School and its Media School, and includes media production (TV studios), specialist workshops as well as a mixture of office, teaching spaces, large lecture theatres and a display exhibition area / atrium.
