Location: Higham Ferrers, Peterborough

Reporting to: Director and/or Associate Director

We are looking for an experienced Senior Engineer to join an existing Geotechnical & Geo-Environmental engineering service line (team), which provides support to a number of Blue-Chip International Brands for projects primarily within the automotive, advanced manufacturing, commercial, industrial/logistics, retail, education and residential sectors.

The successful candidate will be responsible, under the leadership of the Director and/or Associate Director, for the internal day-to-day management of medium to large scale projects and the engineering solutions for numerous schemes for clients across these sectors. The ability to operate as part of a wider project team and to represent the company with confidence to a variety of clients and outside organisations is required for the role. The candidate will have the ability to work on their own initiative and to manage others, with high attention to accuracy and detail.

As a Senior Engineer, you are expected to technically and financially manage and deliver projects through from initial quotation to issue of reports, particularly in the areas of Geotechnical & Geo-Environmental site investigation and assessment, ground engineering, engineering design (including development of associated foundation design), detailed geotechnical assessment, mining assessment, earthworks, environmental and geotechnical remediation and reclamation design/management, contract management, design implementation and validation. The ability to rapidly assimilate site data and provide robust, pragmatic advice pertinent to the clients’ needs is crucial. You should have a strong grasp of basic soil mechanics and relevant experience of the analysis and design of several geotechnical solutions including deep foundations, slope stability remedial works, ground improvement and retaining walls.

As such, there must be demonstrable capability, technical ability, and management experience on matters such as:

  • Design and implementation of Preliminary Risk Assessments and Intrusive Ground Investigations including soil and rock logging, soil and groundwater sampling and in-situ testing
  • The ability to complete factual and interpretative Phase 1 and 2 assessments
  • Experience in the supervision of the construction process including piling works, earthworks and foundations
  • Interpretative report writing including undertaking human health risk and groundwater assessment utilising CLEA, ConSim, RBCA, SNIFFER, BP RISC and EA Remedial Targets for Hydrogeological Risk Assessment
  • Ability to deliver projects and work within a multi-disciplinary consultancy
  • Ability to write technically sound and commercially focussed proposals and reports based on a clear understanding of the client’s requirement
  • High level understanding of contaminated land legislation and the planning regime as well as ability to provide clear and valued commercial advice understanding individual Client and project needs
  • Preparation of technical design of contaminated land earthworks and remediation schemes
  • Contaminated land remedial works - outline concept design and specification
  • Experienced project manager able to lead technical project teams
  • Self-motivated with excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to generate and technically review reports
  • A strong sense of customer service and focus; ability to mentor junior employees; excellent organisational skills with flexible attitude to time management, travelling, office based and site works; ability to work consistently and methodically under pressure, meet deadlines and achieve goals.

The candidate should be, or should be working towards, a Chartered Engineer or of Chartered Geologist status with either the Institution of Civil Engineers or The Geological Society, with at least Ten [10] years post graduate ‘hands on’ experience.
